Intake and treatment
-
Will I definitely get a prescription? No. A licensed provider reviews your intake and approves or declines treatment.
-
Do I need labs? Often, depending on the service and your history.
-
Can I choose my medication? Options depend on the provider's review of your intake and on availability.
-
Are your medications FDA-approved? Some of the active ingredients we work with, like semaglutide and tirzepatide, are found in FDA-approved brand-name medications. The medications prescribed through Telewell are compounded, which means a state-licensed pharmacy prepares them for you based on a prescription from a licensed provider. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved.
-
Is this the same as Ozempic® or Wegovy®? No. Compounded semaglutide is not Ozempic® or Wegovy® and has not been reviewed by the FDA for safety or effectiveness. It is prepared for you by a state-licensed pharmacy based on your provider's prescription.
-
Why aren't compounded medications FDA-approved? FDA approval applies to specific mass-produced products. Under federal law (Section 503A), compounded medications are prepared for one individual patient, so they do not go through the FDA approval process.
-
Does "not FDA-approved" mean unsafe? It means the FDA has not reviewed that specific compounded formula. Compounding pharmacies are licensed and inspected by state boards of pharmacy and must follow sterile-compounding standards. Your provider reviews your health history to decide whether a compounded medication is appropriate for you.
-
Who decides what I receive? A licensed provider from our partner, Asher Health, reviews your intake and decides whether a treatment is appropriate. Approval is never guaranteed.
-
Why would a provider choose a compounded medication instead of the brand? Compounding lets a provider adjust the dose or format for an individual patient. The provider decides which option fits you.
-
Who do I ask about side effects or dosing? Questions about side effects, dosing or eligibility are answered by the Asher Health care team. Our team will connect you.
-
How fast will you respond? We reply to every inquiry within one business day. Hours: Mon–Fri 9 AM–6 PM, Sat–Sun 9 AM–3 PM.
